Great playgrounds everywhere one standard of safety
ColorPlay surfaces are EN 1177-certified and ship as compact rolls to projects on every continent. Here's how our certification maps to the standard your country asks for.
Standards by region
Playground surfacing standards around the world
Nearly every national standard tests the same thing the same way: impact attenuation with HIC ≤ 1000 and gmax ≤ 200 at the critical fall height. What differs is the paperwork. This is the map — and what we provide for each market.
| Region | Key surfacing standard | EN 1177 recognised? | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe (EU/EEA) | EN 1177:2018+A1:2023 | Native standard | The standard our systems are certified to — full test documentation per system. |
| United Kingdom | BS EN 1177:2018+A1:2023 | Yes — identical adoption | Expected by HSE, insurers and RoSPA; RPII-registered inspectors. |
| USA | ASTM F1292 + IPEMA certification | No — ASTM data required | Same pass criteria (HIC ≤ 1000, gmax ≤ 200) but US buyers need ASTM F1292 reports; ask us about US projects. |
| Canada | CSA Z614 (Clause 10) | Partially | CSA Z614 is the reference; testing follows the ASTM headform method. |
| Australia | AS 4422:2016 | Largely — EN-derived | Same HIC/gmax criteria; councils typically expect NATA-accredited test reports. |
| New Zealand | NZS 5828:2015 | Yes — EN 1177 referenced directly | A single standard reproducing EN 1176 and referencing EN 1177. |
| Gulf (GCC) | GSO EN 1177 (GCC adoption) | Yes — EN is the regional benchmark | Dubai Municipality, KHDA and ADEK reference EN 1176/1177; third-party EN certificates requested. KSA shipments: confirm SABER conformity per shipment. |
| Singapore | SS 495:2022 (with SS 457 equipment standard) | Often accepted alongside | Specifiers cite SS 495/SS 457; EN 1177 reports commonly reviewed with them. |
| Japan | JPFA-SP-S:2024 | Same criteria (HIC/gmax) | JPFA conformity is what buyers look for; test criteria match EN/ASTM. |
| South Africa | SANS 51177:2010 (adoption of EN 1177:2008) | Yes — SANS is an EN adoption | EN 1177 reports map directly; SAIPS active in inspections. |
| Brazil | ABNT NBR 16071 (2021 series) | Largely — technically aligned | Specifiers may require local NBR 16071 test reports; part 8 covers accessibility. |
| Mexico & Chile | EN-based practice (Chile: NCh 3340 equipment) | Yes in practice | No enforced dedicated surfacing norm; EN 1177 documentation is the common reference. Confirm with your municipality. |
Standards evolve and local authorities may add requirements — always confirm with your municipality or certifying body. We're happy to support: ask us about your market. Verified July 2026.
